NEW ORLEANS — Ole Miss football running back Kewan Lacy is expected to play in the Rebels’ biggest game of the season.

No. 6 Ole Miss (12-1) plays No. 3 Georgia (12-1) in the Sugar Bowl at the Caesars Superdome on Jan. 1 (7 p.m. CT, ESPN). It’s part of the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff.

Lacy spoke at Sugar Bowl media day on Dec. 30. He said he injured his shoulder in the CFP first-round game against Tulane, but that he will play against the Bulldogs.

“Yeah, it was just a little stinger in my AC joint,” said Lacy, who left the game twice and did not return after the second time in the third quarter.

Having Lacy in the backfield is an important piece for the Rebels. He has been listed as probable on the first two injury reports for the Sugar Bowl.

Lacy was held to 31 rushing yards on 12 carries in Ole Miss‘ regular season game at Georgia on Oct. 18. He did score twice in the game, which the Rebels lost 43-35.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Lacy said. “Especially in the Sugar Bowl. We’re just blessed and thankful for the opportunity.”

Kewan Lacy stats
