The Oregon Ducks are wasting no time changing the narrative from last year's disappointing first-round exit in the College Football Playoff. The Ducks improved to 2-0 in this year's CFP with a 23-0 win over Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl quarterfinal on New Year's Day.

Although the Red Raiders entered the game with an FBS-leading 31 turnovers forced all season, it was Oregon's defense that stole the show. The Ducks forced four turnovers, including two forced fumbles and two interceptions off Tech starting quarterback Behren Morton. Morton was sacked four times, and Tech's offense just couldn't get anything going. 

Three of those takeaways were forced by true freshman Brandon Finney Jr., who had two interceptions and a fumble recovery. The defense also shut out Texas Tech's offense, which entered averaging 42.5 points per game. The Red Raiders finished with just 215 total yards, including nine first downs and 3.5 yards per play.

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore didn't have the best day, throwing for 234 yards with an interception. But he did help the Ducks get consistently into scoring range.  Oregon field goal kicker Atticus Sappington helped the Ducks tack on points, finishing 3-for-4 on field goal attempts, including a 50-yarder in the first quarter. His one miss of the day came in the fourth quarter. 

For Oregon, it will now await the winner of No. 9 Alabama vs. No. 1 Indiana in the Rose Bowl. Making its first-ever CFP appearance, it was a disappointing outing for Texas Tech. But make no mistake about it, this program is great hands under Joey McGuire, and the season was one that the Red Raiders can build upon.

3:21 p.m. TOUCHDOWN: Oregon isn't letting off the gas just yet. Jordon Davison scores a one-yard touchdown to add an exclamation point to this victory.  

3:02 p.m.: Atticus Sappington misses his first field goal attempt of the day, missing left on a 36-yard attempt.

2:50 p.m.: The Ducks add to its lead with a 43-yard field goal from Atticus Sappington to extend Oregon's lead. 

2:43 p.m: Oof, Texas Tech forces an Oregon punt, but is flagged for offsides which keeps the ball in the Ducks' hands. Oregon can start running out some clock here. 

2:40 p.m.: INTERCEPTION—Oh no, Behren Morton throws an interception to Brandon Finney in the end zone to kill that Tech momentum.

That's three turnovers for Finney on the day, including two picks and a forced fumble.  

2:35 p.m.: Behren Morton hits Terrance Carter for a 24-yard pass that puts the Red Raiders down to Oregon's 11. Tech showing some life here!  

2:27 p.m.: INTERCEPTION—Tech's defense gets some life! Dante Moore gets picked off by Ben Roberts on a questionable 4th-and-2 attempt from Dan Lanning. 

Interesting that Lanning didn't punt there with a lead from Tech's 46. Let's see how Tech's offense responds. Second turnover by the Red Raiders today! 

2:21 p.m.: Texas Tech goes for it on a very short 4th-and-1 from Oregon's 35, but does not get it. Oregon takes over. Brutal day on offense for this Red Raider team. Oof.  

2:17 p.m.: Texas Tech has a nice drive going here, with two third-down conversions and down to Oregon's 43. Red Raiders could desperately use some points here.

2:08 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN—On first down, Jordan Davison takes it in for the six-yard rushing score. 

2:07 p.m.: FUMBLE—Oregon with a third takeaway! Behren Morton gets sacked and fumbles, and it's recovered by Matayo Uiagalelei. 

2:02 p.m.: Oregon tries to go for it on 4th-and-2, but Dante Moore gets taken down by Jacob Rodriguez. Texas Tech gets the ball back early here. 

2:00 p.m.: Malik Benson returns a Texas Tech punt 28 yards to start things off well here for Oregon. Ducks get going from Texas Tech's 41.

1:44 p.m.: This game has been led by both defenses. Oregon has been held to -5 rushing yards and 11 first downs on 49 total plays with an interception. 

Texas Tech, meanwhile, has 88 total yards with just three first downs and a fumble.   

1:30 p.m.: Oregon keeps shooting itself in the foot on offense, as the Ducks end the first half on a 2nd-and-33 following a botched snap that Dante Moore had to recover. 

The Ducks have had a ton of miscues on offense today, despite the six-point lead.

1:23 p.m.: FIELD GOAL—Atticus Sappington nails the 39-yarder, to add to Oregon's lead here. Good on the Ducks for coming away with points following the fumble recovery.  

1:15 p.m.: OREGON FUMBLE RECOVERY:  Good lord, this is an incredible defensive game. Oregon's Cameon Dickey fumbles on a rush attempt, and the Ducks recover. 

Ducks can add to its lead here.  

1:12 p.m.: Dante Moore's pass attempt on 4th-and-goal is batted down from David Bailey! Questionable decision there from Oregon, which could have taken the points there. 

Texas Tech gets the ball back with less than five minutes left in the first half. 

1:07 p.m.: Hello Malik Benson! He hauls in a 23-yard pass from Moore to get Oregon down to Texas Tech's 33. Heck of a catch from Benson there. 

1:05 p.m.: Another fourth-down conversion for Oregon! Dante Moore hits Noah Whittington on 4th-and-3 to keep this Ducks drive alive. 

1:00 p.m.: Oregon pulls off the fake punt! The punter James Reynolds-Ferguson hits Zach Grace to keep this Ducks drive alive.

12:57 p.m.: Texas Tech missed field goal— Tech is forced to try for a 54-yard field goal and it is no good from Stone Harrington. Will we see any more points here in the first half? 

12:55 p.m.: Finally some offense for Texas Tech, as J'Koby Williams rushes 50 yards to Oregon's 38 on a big gain. 

12:52 p.m.: Texas Tech's defense with another stop! Another three-and-out for the Ducks, who are forced to punt. 

12:47 p.m.: INTERCEPTION—Oregon's Brandon Finney picks off Behren Morton, and the Ducks get the ball at Tech's 35 yardline.

This game is a defensive coordinator's dream! 

12:42 p.m.: This is turning into a defensive slugfest. Texas Tech forces another Oregon three-and-out, stopping Dante Moore's scramble attempt on third down. 

12:38 p.m.: Well, Tech's defensive momentum is stopped on the Red Raiders' offensive possession. Behren Morton holds on to the ball way too long and gets sacked on third down, forcing a quick three-and-out and a punt. 

Texas Tech has -2 yards of total offense on the day so far. 

12:31 p.m.: Another 4th-down attempt from Oregon, and the Ducks do not get it! Huge stand from Texas Tech's defense, which stops Jordon Davidson on an end-around attempt. 

12:29 p.m.: Wow, Oregon with the aggressive call to go for it in 4th-and-2 from the Texas Tech 42—and the Ducks get it, as Dante Moore finds Kenyon Sadiq.

12:22 p.m.:It's a quick three-and-out for Texas Tech, and Oregon gets the ball back with 9:23 left in the first. Can the Ducks offense make it a two-score game early?

12:16 p.m.: FIELD GOAL— Oregon gets down to Texas Tech's 20, but Dante Moore gets sacked on third down.

12:11 p.m.: Oregon wins the toss and will get the ball first. Let's see how this Ducks offense comes out of the gate. 

12:07 p.m.: Happy New Year from Hard Rock Stadium! Should be a great one between Texas Tech and Oregon. Kickoff incoming in a few minutes here! 

11:25 a.m.: With no re-seeding in the College Football bracket, the winner of Oregon-Texas Tech is set to play the victor of the Alabama-Indiana quarterfinal matchup later today. 

11 a.m.: Dan Lanning and the Ducks have arrived at the Orange Bowl, looking for the program's 2-2 record in the CFP. Oregon blew out JMU in the first round of the 2025 tournament. 

10:40 a.m.: Texas Tech has arrived at Hard Rock Stadium, aiming to get its first win ever in the College Football Playoff. The Red Raiders earned a bye after winning the Big 12 championship.
