MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — There will be plenty of moving pieces to the Texas Tech football team’s reload from the program’s first College Football Playoff appearance, but at least one key player seems to be sticking around another year.
Tight end Terrance Carter Jr. told reporters during his post-Orange Bowl breakout session that he will be returning to the Red Raiders for his senior season, David Collier of KAMC posted on X (formerly Twitter). Carter will be a senior in 2026 and was a key fixture in the Red Raiders’ offensive attack this season.
Carter had a game-high nine catches for 72 yards in Texas Tech’s 23-0 loss to Oregon in the Orange Bowl, proving to be one of the few offensive weapons to get much traction against the Ducks’ defense.
The 6-foot-2, 245-pound Killeen native entered the Orange Bowl fourth on the team with 46 catches, 552 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also become an improved run-blocker, something he set out to do after transferring from Louisiana last year.
Texas Tech is slated to lose its top two wide receivers in Reggie Virgil and Caleb Douglas, who, as of Jan. 1, have exhausted their eligibility.
