2025 marked the ninth season for Willie Martinez to serve as an assistant football coach at Tennessee. He will not return to the Vols in 2026, according to Knox News.
Martinez reunited with head coach Josh Heupel and the Vols in 2021. He was hired as Tennessee’s secondary coach after coaching in the same capacity under Heupel at UCF from 2018-21.
Martinez also coached at Tennessee from 2013-16. He served as a secondary assistant under head coach Butch Jones.
The former Tennessee assistant also coached at Oklahoma, alongside Heupel, from 2010-11. He was the Sooners’ secondary coach, while Heupel was co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Martinez was an assistant coach at Auburn (2012) and Georgia (2001-09) in the SEC.
Tennessee (8-5, 4-4 SEC) concluded its 2025 season with a, 30-28, loss to Illinois in the Liberty Mutual Music City Bowl at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
