Wow, was that fun. Unless …
— You are the SEC and were hoping to have the entire Final Four all to yourself. At least Greg Sankey's league has one team in the semis. Even better that it is Mississippi, which played one of the most exciting games in college football history to advance. Coach Pete Golding, who looks like a drummer in a rock band or chef Guy Fieri's long, lost brother, is refreshing as Lane Kiffin's replacement.
— Kiffin, obviously, made a mistake in dropping the Rebels to coach LSU. If the football gods are paying attention, Kiffin will never sniff the players during his time with the Tigers. No offense to the nice folks in Baton Rouge.
The Big Ten won't have two teams in the final. But it does have Indiana and Oregon playing for a spot in the title game. I like the winner's chances against the winner of Miami and Mississippi. Not a lock, but a good bet.
Indiana coach Curt Cignetti said it best after his team rolled Alabama when talking about the turnaround in Bloomington: It will make a helluva movie. Is Hoosiers II too obvious?
Matt Damon as Cignetti works for me. He will have to practice snarling.
Illinois found out how good the Hoosiers early in the season.
Oregon has less than two weeks to clean up its offense. Way too many mistakes. But the defense was near perfect.
After Thursday, the bye teams are now 1-7 the last two years. Indiana is the only winner. It should take folks in charge of college football about five seconds to do the right thing and dump the byes starting in 2026.
