Alabama football has lost a member of its running back room to the NCAA transfer portal.
Richard Young will enter the transfer portal, per multiple reports, after three seasons with the Crimson Tide and two seasons of eligibility remaining.
With Justice Haynes transferring to Michigan after the 2024 season, Young was expected to take the reins behind Jam Miller in 2025. Instead, Young was limited to five games and nine total snaps after Week 3, per Pro Football Focus, appearing in Alabama‘s win against Eastern Illinois and the SEC Championship Game loss to Georgia.
Young finished with 64 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries this season. He had the fourth-most carries of any Alabama back in 2024 behind Miller, Daniel Hill and Kevin Riley.
“Just the time, just being here and everything, I feel like I developed as a player, as a man also on and off the field. They just want to develop us as a player and just who we are every day,” Young told The Tuscaloosa News at the Rose Bowl.
Young finished his Alabama career with 234 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 59 carries after signing with the Crimson Tide as a top-100 four star in the 2023 class out of Lehigh Acres, Florida.
Alabama is expecting Hill, Riley and AK Dear back for the 2026 season along with in-state five star Ezavier Crowell and Texas three star Traeshawn Brown.
