Kentucky is a major player for Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt

Kentucky Football has entered the mix for Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt, and the Wildcats are viewed as a strong contender to land the experienced signal-caller, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos.

“The Wildcats are viewed as a major player in the Leavitt sweepstakes,” Nakos wrote.

Leavitt officially entered the transfer portal on Friday with a do-not-contact tag, immediately making him one of the most intriguing names available this cycle.

Several national programs, including Oregon, Miami, LSU, and Texas Tech, have been linked to Leavitt, but Nakos indicates Kentucky has quietly put itself in a favorable position. New head coach Will Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan are believed to be selling Leavitt on development, stability, and the opportunity to lead an SEC offense in 2026.

Entering the 2025 season, Leavitt was considered one of the top returning quarterbacks in the country after leading Arizona State to a Big 12 Championship and a College Football Playoff appearance. During that title run, he completed nearly 62 percent of his passes for 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, while also proving to be a threat with his legs.

In 2025, it was filled with injuries as Leavitt still threw for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns while completing over 60 percent of his passes. A foot injury sidelined him during the back half of the season, but he has totaled 10 rushing touchdowns over the last two years, showcasing his dual-threat ability.

If Leavitt ultimately chooses Kentucky, it could create a transfer portal trade of sorts, as Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley might be heading to Arizona State. With quarterback movement accelerating across the sport, the Wildcats appear well-positioned to make a major splash under center.
