Florida is considered the favorite to land Georgia Tech redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Philo out of the transfer portal.

247Sports ranks him No. 84 overall and No. 13 among quarterbacks in the 2026 transfer portal class. On3/Rivals has him at No. 132 nationally and No. 18 at his position.

CBS Sports/247Sports national reporters Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer both submitted crystal ball projections for Philo in favor of Florida on Jan. 2, the day the transfer portal officially opened. On3's Pete Nakos and vice president of recruiting and transfer portal Steve Wiltfong also project Phil to Florida on the On3 recruiting prediction machine, with 70% and 60% confidence, respectively.

Florida expected to host Aaron Philo on an official visit

Philo spent the last two seasons playing under Florida's new offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, at Georgia Tech. Assistant quarterbacks coach A.J. Erdely also worked with Faulkner and Philo. Those connections loom large in Philo's portal decision.

On3's Keith Niebuhr reported that Philo is expected on campus in Gainesville over the weekend of Jan. 3. Nakos has described Florida as "the school to watch" in Philo's recruitment.

“Those two (Faulkner and Philo) have a different type of connection and love working together,” a source told Simmons.

Aaron Philo at Georgia Tech

A three-star recruit out of high school, Philo entered college as the Georgia all-time leader in passing yards (13,922), breaking Trevor Lawrence's record. He also had the third-most touchdowns (159) in Georgia high school football history.

He played in five games, including the Birmingham Bowl against Vanderbilt, as a true freshman in 2024. Bowl games do not count against a player's redshirt eligibility. He threw for 565 yards and a touchdown on 38-for-74 (51.4%) passing, adding 76 yards and a rushing touchdown on 12 carries.

Philo played in four games during the 2025 season, throwing for 373 yards and a touchdown on 21-for-28 (75%) passing — all of which came in his first career start against Gardner-Webb. That performance earned him the No. 6 spot in Georgia Tech history for passing yards in a single game, which is the most since 2001. He ran just four times for 19 yards.

Over his two seasons, Philo has thrown three interceptions on 102 pass attempts, good for a 2.94% interception rate.

Despite limited playing time, Philo was considered the clear successor to Haynes King at Georgia Tech until Faulkner left the program.
