Florida running back Ja’Kobi Jackson received a waiver to play his seventh season of college football, but it won’t be with the Gators. Jackson, who played just four games in 2025, will enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

He spent his first three seasons at Coahoma Community College, taking advantage of an extra season of eligibility granted to all athletes during the 2020 season, which was shortened due to COVID. He left the JUCO ranks with 1,289 yards and 14 touchdowns over 20 games.

After redshirting with the Gators during the 2023 season, Jackson made a large impact as a junior. He played in all 13 games for Florida in the 2024 campaign, finishing third on the team with 95 carries for 509 yards. Jackson’s seven touchdowns were tied for the team lead, alongside Jadan Baugh, that year.

Expected to be a 1-2 punch with Baugh in his senior year, Jackson only ended up carrying the ball 27 times for 98 yards. His season ended after the Miami game, and he participated in the senior day ceremony.

Jackson is the third Florida running back to enter the transfer portal this offseason, along with KD Daniels and Treyaun Webb. Baugh has not yet entered the transfer portal and remains the top retention target for Jon Sumrall and Florida’s new coaching staff. Freshman Duke Clark is expected to back up Baugh after getting some playing time last season.
