There was more than a few coaching moves that Notre Dame made on Friday, the first one being that Al Washington will move from coaching the defensive line to linebackers.
This switch left a vacancy on the staff, and head coach Marcus Freeman wasted no time in finding his next defensive line coach in Charlie Partridge according to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. He had been with the Indianapolis Colts in the same role since 2024, with tons of previous collegiate experience.
Partridge has been a coach since 1996, as he’s been a defensive line coach at Eastern Illinois, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, and Arkansas during his career. He also has some head coaching experience from 2014 to 2016 with Florida Atlantic. Partridge has coached some impressive defensive linemen like JJ Watt, Trey Flowers, Trey Hendrickson and others according to a post shared by Notre Dame Recruiting.
Freeman has shown over this course of his tenure that he’s been great at filling open coaching roles. With Max Bullough leaving to Michigan State, he’s done it once more with the promotion of Washington and the hire of Partridge.
