Oklahoma State head football coach Eric Morris has been busy filling out his new staff since being introduced Dec. 8.
The transfer portal opens Jan. 2, which will be a pivotal period for Morris to rebuild an OSU roster that went 4-20 the past two seasons with an 0-18 mark in Big 12 play. Now, Morris’ staff and front office is starting to take shape ahead of a busy new year.
Here’s a look at updates so far.
Football coaching staff
Defensive coordinator: Skyler Cassity
Cassity was defensive coordinator at North Texas this past year under Morris. In one year at UNT, Cassity improved the defense by more than 10 points and 90 yards per game. UNT ranks 10th nationally in yards allowed.
Cassity and his family are no strangers to Stillwater. His younger brother, Braden Cassity, played fullback and tight end at OSU from 2018-23. His father, Mike Cassity, was co-defensive coordinator for the Cowboys in 1999 and defensive coordinator in 2000, both seasons under head coach Bob Simmons.
Skyler Cassity, 31, will be making his fifth stop as a position coach or coordinator at the college level. He spent time as a student assistant and graduate assistant at Auburn, Texas State and Texas Tech.
From 2020-21, Cassity was the linebackers/nickles/safeties coach at Missouri State. His first stint as defensive coordinator came at Abilene Christian from 2022-23, then he took the same role at Sam Houston for the 2024 season. The Bearkats improved from 88th in the FBS in total defense to 22nd in Cassity’s one season leading the defense.
Cassity is OSU’s sixth defensive play caller in the past six seasons.
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach: Sean Brophy
Brophy became the first offensive staff addition when his hiring was announced Dec. 18. Brophy has coached in college football for five years, all under Morris, across stops at Incarnate Word, Washington State and UNT. He was also a quarterback under Morris at Incarnate Word.
Brophy has been the quarterbacks coach the past three seasons and became the Mean Green’s passing game coordinator in 2025. The UNT offense has ranked second, fourth and 12th in passing offense during his three seasons on staff, and he helped mentor quarterback Drew Mestemaker, the nation’s leading passer.
Cornerbacks coach: Julian Wilson
Wilson, the DBs coach at North Texas, will join Morris and the Cowboys as cornerbacks coach. Wilson was the DBs coach at Abilene Christian and Sam Houston before accepting the job at UNT in 2025.
With Wilson, the Mean Green pass defense ranked 10th nationally. A year earlier, at Sam Houston, Wilson’s unit was 13th in pass defense and intercepted 16 passes, which led Conference USA.
Wilson, from Oklahoma City, played cornerback for Oklahoma from 2011-14.
Defensive backs coach: Jordan Malone
Malone was the nickels and outside linebackers coach at UNT this past season. Before then, Malone coached in various defensive roles at Washington State from 2020-24.
Morris and Malone were on the same Cougars staff in 2022.
Linebackers coach: Reggie Johnson
Johnson was the inside linebackers coach at UNT this season under Morris, and he has also worked with Cassity at Sam Houston and Missouri State.
Johnson has 28 years of coaching experience across stops at Louisville, Arkansas, Purdue and others.
Defensive line coach: Greg Richmond
The Cowboy coaching staff is almost entirely new, but Richmond is the one familiar face back in Stillwater. He previously served as the defensive line coach at OSU from 2018-22 and is rejoining the Cowboy staff.
After his exit from OSU, Richmond was the defensive ends coach at Sam Houston in 2024 and then joined the UNT staff as defensive ends coach in 2025. Richmond was also a four-year letterman on the OSU football team from 2000-03 and is still in the program’s top-10 list for both single-season and career sacks.
Running backs coach and run-game coordinator: Patrick Cobbs
Cobbs has spent his entire coaching career around Denton, Texas. He got his start as a running backs coach at Denton Ryan High School in 2014, then joined North Texas as running backs coach in 2019, where he remained through this season.
Before attending and playing football UNT, Cobbs was from Shawnee, the same town as Mean Green freshman phenom running back Caleb Hawkins, who was 13th in rushing yards per game and led the nation in scoring this season. Cobbs was named the FootballScoop Running Backs Coach of the Year this season for coaching Hawkins and the potent running game.
Cobbs graduated from UNT in 2005 and left as the program’s all-time leading rusher. He then played five years in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins.
Assistant defensive line coach: Ike Eguae
Eguae has climbed the coaching ladder. A 2007 Pittsburgh State graduate, Eguae helped coach defensive lines across small Kansas Colleges like Coffeyville Community College and Fort Hays State from 2007-21.
He joined the Stephen F. Austin staff as defensive line coach in 2022, then held the same role at Sam Houston from 2023-24. This past season, Eguae coached defensive tackles for North Texas and helped improve a defense that shaved 10 points and 90 yards a game off its 2024 averages.
Offensive line coach: Cody Crill
Crill is a 22-year college coaching veteran who has been both an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator. Like many others on staff, Crill was part of Morris’ staff, as offensive line coach, at North Texas this past year. His unit helped pave the way for one of the best offenses in the country.
From 2018-21, Crill was the offensive coordinator at Incarnate Word under Morris. He spent the next three years coaching offensive lines for the the UFL’s DC Defenders and Marshall before rejoining Morris for the 2025 season.
Assistant defensive line coach: Mike O’Guin
O’Guin spent the past three seasons as the defensive line coach at Texas State. In 2023, his defensive line unit helped the Bobcats lead the nation in tackles for loss and crack the top 10 in sacks.
O’Guin previously worked alongside new defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity in 2019 at Texas Tech, where they were both graduate assistants. This is O’Guin’s 15th season coaching since beginning as a student assistant at SMU in 2011. He was also notably a defensive line assistant at Notre Dame in 2020 and a defensive line coach at Sam Houston from 2021-22.
Associate head coach/special teams coordinator/tight ends coach: Drew Svoboda
Svoboda served in all three roles for the Mean Green this past season and was the interim head coach in UNT's 49-47 win against San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl. He's a longtime high school coach who moved to the college ranks in 2018 and has since coached special teams and tight ends for Alabama, Memphis and Rice.
Wide receivers coach: Nick Edwards
Edwards has spent 10 seasons coaching wide receivers in college football, including his latest stint as wide receivers coach at Wake Forrest in 2025. His Demon Deacon receiver room ranked 22nd nationally with 13.15 yards per completion.
Edwards has also coached receivers at Eastern Washington, Cal, Cal Poly and Washington State. He coached players such as Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp and New England Patriots receiver Kyle Williams.
Head strength and conditioning coach: Bryan Kegans
Kegans is a 20-year coaching veteran who is familiar with Morris' system. He's worked the same position for Morris at UNT since 2023, and before that he worked in strength and conditioning at OU and USC.
Front Office
Chief of Staff: Rolando Surita
Surita will oversee administrative, recruiting and off-the-field operations, according to an OSU press release. He graduated from UTSA in 2017 and began working for Morris at Incarnate Word as a player personnel assistant in 2018, then was promoted to recruiting operations assistant in 2019 and chief of staff in 2021.
In 2022, Surita followed Morris to Washington State as an offensive scout. The past three seasons, Surita was the chief of staff for Morris at North Texas. This will be his ninth consecutive year working with Morris.
General manager: Raj Murti
Murti, 24, has reportedly been working on behalf of the Cowboys since Morris was hired in late November. He got his start at Houston in 2019 as recruiting intern and climbed up to director of player personnel. Murti made a stop at TCU before joining Morris as North Texas’ general manager this past season and helping build a roster that went 11-2.
According to a press release, Murti will oversee the OSU’s roster, revenue sharing and personnel departments. During his introductory press conference, Morris said he likes to build relationships with recruits and players, and sometimes emotions don’t make the best business decisions. That’s where Murti comes in.
“That’s been so valuable for me to separate those things and Raj to be the guy that’s kind of that point in between,” Morris said. “He’s done the personnel side, both at TCU and at Houston, so he understands what a Big 12 All-Conference-caliber player looks like and plays like.”
Executive director of player personnel: Ethan Russo
Russo has worked in a player personnel role in college football since 2019. He was the assistant director of player development with Morris at North Texas in 2023 before being promoted to director of player personnel in 2024.
Russo spent the 2025 season in that same role at Wisconsin and will now rejoin forces with Morris.
