Penn State has hired Cincinnati defensive coordinator Tyson Veidt as its new linebackers coach, according to Bearcat Journal, which is part of 247Sports.

According to Lions247, former Nittany Lions All-American Dan Connor will remain on the staff as assistant linebackers coach, a position he held in 2024. Connor was promoted to linebackers coach for the 2025 season.

Veidt has worked as linebackers coach for new Penn State head coach Matt Campbell at Toledo in 2014-15 and at Iowa State from 2016-23.

He was a nominee for the Broyles Award and was named Linebackers Coach of the Year by FootballScoop in 2017. He coached two All-Americans at Iowa State, Joel Lanning in 2017 and Mike Rose in 2020.

Veidt, a native of Ohio, spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, where he didn’t have great success.

This season, the Bearcats rank 74th in points allowed, 93rd in yards allowed, 105th in rushing defense and 109th in pass defense efficiency. In 2024, they were 62nd in points allowed, 85th in yards allowed, 88th in rushing defense and 92nd in pass defense efficiency.

Campbell still hasn’t named a running backs coach and hasn’t specified which position former interim head coach Terry Smith will oversee.
