Famed ex-Arizona State football quarterback Sam Leavitt is reportedly visiting Texas Tech on Sunday, Jan. 4, per On3 College Football Insider Pete Nakos.

Leavitt, who entered the transfer portal, has already visited Kentucky. Leavitt is rated as a five-star transfer prospect, and is the top-ranked transfer portal quarterback and overall prospect in the transfer portal.

This is largely due to his performance in the 2024 season, when he was the starting quarterback for the ASU team that won the Big 12 championship in its first year in the conference. They also played in the Peach Bowl (quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff) after receiving a first-round bye in the CFP. The team went 11-3 and finished as the No. 7 team in the AP Poll.

Leavitt was ranked as a four-star prospect coming out of the 2023 recruiting class.

Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton is out of eligibility, and the Red Raiders do not have any four- or five-star quarterback prospects in their 2026 recruiting class. Leavitt would likely start if he signs there.

Leavitt played just seven games due to injury in 2025, but did average 4.1 yards per carry when he was on the field. He also, however, completed only 60.7% of his passes for an average of 6.8 yards per pass.
