Penn State lands Iowa State OL Will Tompkins from transfer portal

The transfer portal was expected to give Penn State much to monitor this month, and things are starting off with a flurry of activity with the program. While faced with a substantial number of players entering the transfer portal to explore their options, Matt Campbell and his staff are also expected to bring a number of players from Iowa State to Happy Valley. On Saturday, Penn State secured two commitments from Iowa State’s 2025 roster, starting with tight end Benjamin Brahmer. But Penn State also added to the offensive line with a commitment from Will Tompkins.

Tompkins shared the news of his commitment to Penn State out of the transfer portal wiht a graphic on his social media accounts on Saturday. This is a big transfer commitment for Penn State, somewhat literally and figuratively. Tompkins is a 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive tackle and Penn State has a need to fill some space on the offensive line. Tompkins also could be around for a while as he will have four years of eligibility still at his disposal.

Tompkins is an Iowa native who signed wiht the Iowa State program in the Class of 2025. He was rated as the No. 7 player overall in the state of Iowa in the Class of 2025 recruiting cycle and was a three-star recruit according to his 247Sports rating. 247Sports also rates him as a three-star transfer player in this transfer cycle. He was on Penn State’s recruiting radar and received an offer from the Nittany Lions out of high school.

Penn State is set to lose some offensive linemen through the transfer portal. As it stands, Alex Birchmeier, J’ven Williams, T.J. Shanahan, and Eagan Boyer are all in the transfer portal. The transfer window remains open until Jan. 16.
