Lane Kiffin, LSU Dealt Untimely News on Sunday

While the Ole Miss Rebels are preparing for a College Football Playoff semifinal game, former coach Lane Kiffin is currently working hard at his new job with the LSU Tigers.

Kiffin left Ole Miss at the end of the regular season to take the LSU job, and now he is trying to add pieces with the transfer portal barely opening up on Jan. 2.

One big name that was linked to LSU was Cincinnati Bearcats superstar quarterback Brendan Sorsby.

Both The Athletic and ESPN had Sorsby ranked as the No. 1 player in this year’s class.

However, Kiffin and LSU received some unfortunate news on the Sorsby front as he committed to Texas Tech on Sunday, via Pete Thamel of ESPN.

“NEWS: Former Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby, the top player in the NCAA transfer portal, has committed to Texas Tech, he tells ESPN. Sorsby’s decision comes in the wake of a 48-hour visit flurry that included visits to Tech and LSU.”

Thamel also added that Sorsby was “blown away by Texas Tech’s facilities and appreciated the culture set there by the coaching staff.”

Sorsby had visited both Texas Tech and LSU in the past two days despite the portal officially opening on Friday, but he now goes to Texas Tech.

Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt was scheduled to visit Texas Tech, and he has also been rumored as an option for LSU, so it will be interesting to see where Kiffin goes now with Sorsby off the market.

However, this is an early blow for Kiffin and the Tigers as they made a run at one of the best players in the portal.
