With the departure of Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price, it looked like the Notre Dame running back room out be relying on a veteran presence in the form of Gi’Bran Payne, but he opted to transfer out.
On Monday we found out where he’ll be playing next, with the Cincinnati Bearcats as reported by Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer. Payne looked like he was trending towards much more playing time in 2024, but an injury forced him to miss the season. This past fall, with Love and Price literally carrying the load, there weren’t many chances for him to tote the rock.
Moving to the Bearcats will give Payne a much easier path to playing time, and you have to believe that head coach Marcus Freeman had some good things to say about the program, as he was the former defensive coordinator there.
We wish Gi’Bran the best with the Bearcats, and we’ll be rooting for his future success.
