MANHATTAN — Kansas State football found a running mate for Joe Jackson, adding one of the most exciting young running backs in the transfer portal.

Oklahoma State transfer Rodney Fields Jr. will sign with the Wildcats, according to 247Sports reporter Chris Hummer. Fields was a breakout redshirt freshman for the Cowboys and should provide the Wildcats with an all-purpose threat out of their backfield.

Fields is coming off a season in which he averaged five yards per carry, running the ball 124 times for 614 yards and a score. He also caught 28 passes for 276 yards and a touchdown.

Fields will reunite with Cory Patterson, who was Oklahoma State’s running backs coach in 2025, and has since been hired to the same position at Kansas State.

Kansas State needed a running back to complement Jackson, who broke out over the final weeks of the 2025 regular season, and has since pledged his return to the Wildcats. Jackson rushed for 435 yards and six touchdowns in the final two weeks of the regular season, and Fields will provide speed and a receiving threat out of the backfield.

Fields’ breakout game for the Cowboys in 2025 came when he rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati on Oct. 18. He also rushed for 113 yards on 17 carries on Sept. 19 against Tulsa. Against K-State on Nov. 15, he had 97 all-purpose yards on 18 touches.

Fields wasn’t the most sought-after prospect out of high school, holding three stars, while ranked as the No. 74 running back in the 247Sports Composite for the Class of 2024.

Of Fields’ 372 snaps in 2025, he took 325 from the backfield and 35 as a slot receiver.
