See transfer portal movement of former Indiana high school football players

The college football transfer portal opened on Friday and there are some familiar names looking for new homes.

The portal is open through Jan. 16 with an addition five days (Jan. 20-24) for the two teams playing in the national championship. There is no longer an additional portal window following the spring practices in April.

Here is a look, so far, at the in-state players in the portal (will be updated):

Committed

Kam Anthony, Hamilton Southeastern: The former Royal caught seven passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns this season as a redshirt freshman at Ball State. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Anthony committed to Rutgers on Monday. Anthony started every game this season. Ball State to Rutgers.

Nylan Brown, Ben Davis: The 5-11, 235-pound linebacker played in 22 games over two seasons at Kent State, making 38 tackles as a sophomore (21 solo), including a season-high seven against Texas Tech. Brown committed to Washington State on Sunday. Kent State to Washington State.

Danny Royster, Lawrence North: The former Lawrence North defensive end is headed to James Madison, he announced Monday. The 6-3, 235-pound Royster started out at Ball State, appearing in 12 games over two seasons. He starred at UIndy last year, finishing with 13 tackles for loss and 7 ½ sacks. UIndy to James Madison.

Jaron Thomas, Concord: The Concord graduate was the 2024 Mr. Football position winner for running back, running for 2,867 yards and 40 TDs in two seasons. Thomas, who had just two carries as a freshman, transferred to Minnesota on the first day the portal was open. Purdue to Minnesota.

Anthony Boswell, Ben Davis: The 6-2, 293-pound offensive lineman was a redshirt freshman star last season at Toledo, earning first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors after redshirting his 2024 freshman year at Purdue. Boswell has three years of eligibility.

Kalen Carroll, Center Grove: The three-star prospect started 14 games over two years at Cincinnati as a defensive back before spending last year at Central Michigan, where he had 52 tackles and two interceptions and earned all-conference honors.

DeJuan Echoles, Warren Central: The 6-1, 235-pound outside linebacker had his best season at Ball State in 2025 with 26 tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks in 11 games. Echoles has one year of eligibility remaining.

Sam Feeney, Bishop Chatard: The former Chatard star, a 6-2, 215-pound outside linebacker, had 14 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble over two seasons at Ball State. Feeney was also a track standout in high school.

Trey Firestone, Zionsville: The 6-3, 205-pound Firestone joined Purdue as a preferred walk-on, then transferred to Ball State. Firestone, a wide receiver, has two years of eligibility remaining. He picked up an offer from Murray State.

Jahmad Harmon, Lawrence Central: Harmon, a defensive back, spent one year at Kent State as a redshirt before spending the last three seasons at Ball State (one year as a medical redshirt). He had 44 tackles. Harmon has picked up offers from Robert Morris, Stony Brook and Towson.

Eugene Hilton Jr., Zionsville: The former Zionsville star had eight catches for 91 yards in his freshman season at Wisconsin. Hilton, the son of former Colts’ star T.Y. Hilton, is gaining interest from Florida, LSU and others, according to On3.

Aidan Leffler, Roncalli: The former Roncalli quarterback, the school’s all-time passing leader, has two years of eligibility remaining after playing at Ball State.

Chrishon McCray, Avon: McCray caught 24 passes for 330 yards and three TDs as a junior at Michigan State in 2025 after two all-conference seasons at Kent State. McCray is reportedly on a visit to Central Florida on Monday.

Ransom McDermott, Noblesville: The 6-8, 315-pound McDermott has three years of eligibility remaining after spending his first two seasons at Louisville, appearing in three games. His younger brother, Mason McDermott, is a Division I prospect going into his senior year at Noblesville.

Brock Schott, Leo: The 6-3, 245-pound Schott was Mr. Football position award winner at tight end in 2024. The highly touted Schott caught two passes for 24 yards as a freshman. He is visiting Indiana on Monday and could commit to the Hoosiers.

Sterling Smith, Cathedral: Smith, a defensive back, has two years of eligibility remaining after playing the past two seasons at Purdue. He started out at Holy Cross.

Nitro Tuggle, NorthWood: The former NorthWood star signed with Georgia out of high school, making three catches for 34 yards. He transferred to Purdue, where he caught 34 passes for 500 yards and four TDs last season.

A.J. Vinatieri, Zionsville: The son of former NFL star kicker Adam Vinatieri is in the portal after averaging 41.8 yards per punt last year at Division I Lindenwood. He attended Louisville and Ball State prior to Lindenwood.

Lane Wadle, Greenfield-Central: The 6-5, 245-pound Wadle, a tight end, spent the past two seasons at Georgia State, catching nine passes for 92 yards this season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
