Based on several sources, including AggieYell insider Jaxson Callaway, Texas A&M’s transfer portal success, now up to seven commitments, should continue later into the week, as head coach Mike Elko and his staff have already addressed nearly every position of need, including two offensive line commits and Colorado defensive lineman Brandon Davis-Swain.
With several defensive line starters departing for the 2026 NFL Draft, adding two, or possibly three starting-level D-linemen, is the focus this month. On Monday, it was revealed by On3 insider Pete Nakos that the Aggies reportedly hosted Kentucky transfer defensive lineman Jerod Smith II, who, during his first starting season with the Wildcats, recorded 27 tackles, 18 solo tackles, and his first career sack.
Another stout run-defender, something the Aggies desperately need, Smith earned solid Pro Football Focus grades, including a 75.9 run defense grade and a 60.9 pass-rush mark. Standing at 6’4″ and 275 pounds, Smith plays at outside linebacker or lines up as a defensive tackle, as Elko is keen to utilize versatile defenders with SEC experience.
Plenty of teams require defensive line help, and if the Aggies can secure Smith’s commitment this week, Texas A&M’s 2026 defensive line, especially if junior defensive tackle DJ Hicks returns, is in much better shape. However, Smith isn’t, and won’t be the last defensive line transfer to visit College Station.
