Texas A&M’s defensive line will undergo a significant shift this offseason after unanimous All-American edge Cashius Howell and defensive tackles Albert Regis and Tyler Onyedim declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, leaving significant holes in the future starting rotation. However, head coach Mike Elko and his staff quickly went to work in the transfer portal, adding Colorado transfer DL Brandon Davis-Swain.

Like Onyedim, landing another veteran defensive tackle with the size and athleticism to stop the run and provide an impact as an interior pass rusher is key, and while Davis-Swain only has one year of play under his belt, this is undoubtedly a good start. However, Texas A&M’s run defense directly led to the Aggies’ last two losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff, underscoring the need for more size to counter physical rushing attacks.

With the news that Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka made his way to College Station this week, it sounds like the Aggies are on the cusp of landing one or two more transfer defensive linemen in the coming weeks.

Still, the other side of the trenches may be even more vital, as junior starting left tackle Chase Bisontis declared for the 2026 NFL Draft on Tuesday, and after Elko added commitments from transfer guards Coen Echols (LSU) and Trovon Baugh (South Carolina) to sure up the depth, while both players could certainly contend for both starting guard spots.

At left tackle, Trey Zuhn will depart after four starting seasons, and offensive line coach Adam Cushing can’t afford to rely on the “next man up mentality,” as it has now been confirmed that standout NC State tackle Jaccarius Peak is currently visiting the Aggies, according to 247Sports’s Matt Zenitz.

Standing at 6’4″ and over 300 pounds, Peak earned prolific pass protection grades of 80 or better in seven of his 14 starts during the 2025 season, per Pro Football Focus. An above-average to solid run blocker, it’s no surprise Alabama, Oregon, and the Texas Longhorns are also in the mix.

Peak would immediately replace Zuhn as Texas A&M’s starting left tackle next season.
