Why Dabo Swinney may smash Clemson's transfer portal record based on visits scheduled

CLEMSON — Clemson football has landed two transfer portal players for coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers 2026 roster with more potentially on the horizon.

Clemson added Penn State cornerback Elliot Washington II on Jan. 5 and Cal linebacker Luke Ferrelli on Jan. 6.

The Tigers need one more transfer to tie their all-time portal class record of three, which they set last season, and they may shatter that record. Clemson has lined up visits with multiple players to revamp its roster after going 7-6 in 2025, the second-worst year in Swinney’s full 17 seasons.

Here’s the list of players who are visiting, will visit or have visited Clemson, according to various reports, ahead of the one-time portal window closing on Jan. 16.

Donovan Starr, Auburn CB

Starr, the No. 25 cornerback in the portal, will visit Clemson with a date to be determined. He played in nine games on special teams and defense. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Dexter Foster, Oregon State LB

Foster, who isn’t rated, will visit Clemson. He recorded 52 tackles, including three for loss, and one pass breakup over seven games this season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Lyrik Rawls, Kansas S

Rawls, the No. 26 safety in the portal, will visit Clemson on Jan. 10-11. He logged 73 tackles, including one sack, one interception and seven pass deflections in 2025. The fifth-year player has one year of eligibility remaining and has interest with multiple schools, including Tennessee, Ole Miss, Duke and Virginia.

Jamal Wallace, Tennessee DT

Wallace, the No. 37 defensive lineman in the portal, posted on X he will visit Clemson on Jan. 7. He played in nine games for the Vols in the last two seasons. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Edwin Joseph, Florida State S

Joseph, the No. 4 safety and No. 69 player in the portal, will visit Clemson on Jan. 7. He recorded 37 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, three inceptions, five pass deflections and one forced fumble this season. He has two years of eligibility remaining and has visited Texas and Texas A&M among other schools.

Corey Myrick, Southern Miss S

Myrick, the No. 97 safety in the portal, will visit Clemson on Jan. 7. He logged 92 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, two interceptions, four pass deflections and a forced fumble in 13 games for Southern Miss. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Jerome Carter, Old Dominion S

Carter, the No. 93 safety in the portal, is visiting Clemson on Jan. 6. He recorded 76 tackles and six interceptions (tied second in FBS) in 2025. He has two years of eligibility remaining and has interest from Louisville, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State.

Matai Tagoa’i, Southern California LB

Tagoa’i, the No. 25 linebacker in the portal, visited Clemson on Jan. 5. He recorded four tackles and forced a fumble in eight games in his freshman season. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Kourtney Kelly, West Georgia DT

Kelly, the No. 94 defensive lineman in the portal, visited Clemson on Jan. 5. He recorded 10 tackles and one fumble recovery in seven games in 2025. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Johnnie Brown, Georgia Southern OL

Brown, the No. 88 interior offensive lineman in the portal, visited Clemson on Jan. 5. He earned third-team all-Sun Belt honors this season. He has one year of eligibility remaining and has interest from Louisville and West Virginia.

Josh Hough, California University of Pennsylvania DL

Hough, the No. 50 defensive lineman in the portal, visited Clemson on Jan. 5. He had 58 tackles, including 11 for loss and six sacks, in 2025 at the Division II level. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Chris Bracy, Memphis S

Bracy, the No. 98 safety in the portal, posted on Instagram that he was at Clemson on Jan. 4. He logged 81 tackles, including 9.5 for loss, one interception, nine pass deflections and a forced fumble this season. He has two years of eligibility remaining and has Clemson among his final six teams, which includes Michigan, Houston, Mississippi State, Iowa and Arkansas.
