MANHATTAN — Kansas State football entered the transfer portal window with a clear need along the defensive line, and it added one out of the SEC.

Kentucky transfer Austin Ramsey will sign with Kansas State, according to On3’s Pete Nakos on Tuesday, Jan. 6. He’s coming off his sophomore season with the Kentucky Wildcats and will have two more seasons of eligibility.

Ramsey is listed at 6-foot-4, 303 pounds, and will serve as a defensive tackle. He started his career as an offensive lineman before moving to the defensive line before the 2024 season. He was a three-star offensive lineman out of high school, with Rivals grading him as the No. 73 offensive tackle in the country.

Across two seasons, Ramsey appeared in 16 games, with all five of his total tackles coming in his 11 appearances in 2025. He also had a sack, which came in Kentucky’s Nov. 1 win over Auburn. It was reported that Oklahoma and Arkansas were interested in keeping him in the SEC.

As a three-star offensive lineman out of high school, Ramsey was pursued by Illinois, Penn State, Virginia Tech and others. He attended Roman Catholic in Philadelphia.

Ramsey becomes the second defensive lineman to commit to K-State, joining FCS Gardner-Webb transfer De’Arieun Hicks, who committed to the Wildcats on Monday, Jan. 5.

Ramsey should have an inside track on making a quick contribution to K-State, considering how thin the Wildcats are along the defensive front. He has potential, but it will be worth watching how he continues to develop along the defensive line after starting his career on the other side of the ball.

Holden Bass and Patrick Tackie are the only two returning players at the position from last season, after, notably, Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder entered the transfer portal. In addition to Hicks, the Wildcats have also added a trio of incoming freshmen.
