LSU football landed another commitment out of the transfer portal to bolster its backfield. Running back Rod Gainey will head to Baton Rouge, according to a report from 247Sports.

Gainey spent the last two seasons at Charlotte. In 2025, he took 74 carries for 260 yards and one touchdown. He also contributed in the pass game, finishing with 16 receptions for 44 yards. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

The six-foot and 185-pounder hails from Tampa, FL. As part of the 2024 signing class, he drew a three-star rating from multiple recruiting outlets. He was the No. 71 running back and the No. 124 prospect out of Florida during his time at Tampa Bay Tech.

Gainey’s announcement follows Raycine Guillory, a transfer running back from Utah. The pair will compete for time with Harlem Berry. Caden Durham and Ju’Juan Johnson departed, which leaves plenty of touches up for grabs.
