Dabo Swinney, Clemson extend program transfer portal record with latest addition

CLEMSON — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney added his fifth transfer portal player for the 2026 roster with the addition of Southern Miss safety Corey Myrick on Jan. 7.
Myrick, 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, logged 92 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, two interceptions, four pass deflections and a forced fumble this season.
Myrick, the No. 97 safety in the portal, confirmed his decision on social media. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
He is Clemson‘s fifth portal addition, joining cornerbacks Elliot Washington II and Donovan Starr, safety Jerome Carter III and linebacker Luke Ferrelli. This year’s additions have set Clemson’s program record for the most portal players taken in a season, which the Tigers set last year with three.
Myrick, who is from Cincinnati, spent one season with Southern Miss after starting his career at Marshall. He was a three-star recruit out of high school, per 247Sports Composite.

Pass defense was Clemson’s weakness this season, and the Tigers have addressed this with four of their five portal additions being defensive backs.
Myrick will have a chance to be a Day 1 starter for Clemson, which lost both of its starting safeties to the portal. His length and playing experience will be needed in the second year of defensive coordinator Tom Allen’s defense.
Myrick will vie for one of the two starting safety positions with Carter, Ronan Hanafin, Kylon Griffin, Kylen Webb and signee Polo Anderson.
