First, if you're reading this, thank you for sticking with me.
(Unless you're here to fade my picks. Actually, if you are, I'll say thank you anyway, because you're here, and I've already got your click.)
Again, betting on sporting events involving people between the ages of 18 and 22 is not easy. But if it were easy, everyone would do it So we go again, with a simple goal: win more bets than I lose.
Being 44-47 means I have been wrong 47 times… and I have been right 44 times.
Being three games under .500 with four weeks left in the regular season is not the worst place to be. Let's get back to .500 this week, starting with an old reliable…
Best Bets
No. 2 Indiana -13.5 (-130) at Penn State (Sat. 12 pm on FOX)
Indiana's average margin of victory is 31.3 points per game in conference games. In Big Ten road games, the average drops to… 30 points per game.
After squeaking past Iowa by five in Iowa City, the Hoosiers beat Oregon by 10 in Eugene and Maryland by 45 in College Park.
Curt Cignetti is exacting revenge for decades of being the Big Ten's doormat. If Indiana is up by double digits at the half, Indiana will pour it on.
Purdue team total under 8.5 (-110) vs. No. 1 Ohio State (Sat. 1 pm on Big Ten Network)
Last week, I bet that Penn State wouldn't score two touchdowns against Ohio State, and I was wrong.
The silver lining? Vegas now believes that a team that was shut out by Northwestern can get two scores against a defense that has allowed 7.8 points per game in conference play. I don't.
Stanford at North Carolina under 43.5 (-115) (Sat. 4:30 pm on The CW)
Six of Carolina's eight games this season have gone under. Since the 38-10 loss to Clemson, the Tar Heels have allowed 16 points per game. It's been fun to laugh at UNC, but Bill Belichick may be righting the ship.
FBS Deep Dives
Memphis -3.5 (-110) vs. Tulane (Fri. 9 pm on ESPN)
I liked this line when it opened at -5.5, so I will gladly take the two free points.
Boston College +11.5 (-115) vs. SMU (Sat. 12 pm on ACC Network)
Yes, I know Boston College has not beaten an FBS opponent this season. However, the Eagles gave Notre Dame a warm time last week, while SMU is coming off its biggest win in nearly 50 years and has No. 14 Louisville next week. This game will be closer than the experts think.
No. 20 Iowa +6.5 (-110) vs. No. 9 Oregon (Sat. 3:30 pm on CBS)
Oregon is not as dominant as it was last season, and it's facing an Iowa team that ranks in the top ten nationally in many defensive categories. The money line (+210) is live here, but let's not be greedy, just take the points.
UConn +9.5 (-110) vs. Duke (Sat. 3:30 on CBS Sports Network)
Another game sandwiched between a big win and a lookahead game: last week, Duke beat Clemson in Death Valley for the first time since 1980, and it hosts Virginia next week in a potential de facto ACC Championship semifinal. This has all the makings.
