Quarterback play is always important in college football.

As we reach the College Football Playoff semifinal, the play from the most important position on the field gets even more crucial to winning or losing. Both Indiana and Oregon football arrive in the CFP Peach Bowl semifinal in a good spot with their quarterbacks.

The quarterback matchup should be a good one when Fernando Mendoza and the No. 1 Hoosiers (14-0) take the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta against Dante Moore and the No. 5 Ducks (13-1) on Friday, Jan. 9.

Here’s a look at how Mendoza and Moore compared statistically during the 2025 college football season, including their head-to-head matchup:

Fernando Mendoza vs. Dante Moore stats

Fernando Mendoza ― a California transfer ― has led the Hoosiers to a perfect 14-0 record and the No. 1 overall ranking in the CFP. Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy this season, becoming the first Hoosier to win the prestigious award.

Meanwhile, Moore is in his first year as the Ducks’ starter after sitting behind Dillon Gabriel. He has led Oregon to a 13-1 overall record, with his only blemish being a 30-20 loss to Indiana on Oct. 11 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.

Here’s a look at how Moore and Mendoza have fared during the 2025 college football season.

  • Fernando Mendoza: 240-of-332 passing (72.3%) for 3,172 yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions; 77 rushes for 256 yards and six touchdowns
  • Dante Moore: 272-of-373 passing (72.9%) for 3,280 yards, 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions; 68 rushes for 184 yards and two touchdowns

In the Oct. 11 matchup in Eugene, Oregon, neither quarterback had a great statistical game. All three of the interceptions from the quarterbacks came in the fourth quarter.

Mendoza was picked off by Brandon Finney Jr., who returned the interception 35 yards for a touchdown to tie the game 20-20 with 12:42 left in the game.

After Oregon tied the game, Moore threw interceptions on each of the Ducks’ next two drives. Louis Moore got the first pick one play after Indiana took a 27-20 lead with 6:03 left. The turnover led to a Hoosier field goal.

The second interception sealed the game for Indiana when Isaiah Jones intercepted Moore’s pass with 2:01 left.
