Florida A&M will introduce its new head football coach, Quinn Gray Sr., and Vice President and Director of Athletics John F. Davis this Friday, Jan. 9.
The joint press conference, featuring remarks from Gray, Davis, and FAMU President Marva Johnson, begins at noon inside the Al Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center on FAMU’s campus.
It’s open to the public.
FAMU will also stream the event on Facebook Live and its YouTube channel, titled FAMUTUBE1887.
Gray, a former record-setting quarterback for the Rattlers from 1997-2001, was hired away from NCAA Division II Historically Black College Albany State after three seasons to become the head football coach for his alma mater on Dec. 23, 2025.
He replaced former head coach James Colzie III, who led FAMU to a 12-12 record in two years and a 5-7 mark in 2025, the Rattlers’ first losing season since 2017. Colzie was dismissed on Dec. 8, 2025, his 51st birthday.
A FAMU Sports Hall of Famer and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Hall of Famer, Gray guided the Albany State Golden Rams to a 24-11 overall record and 20-4 mark in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The 2025 season in Albany was Gray’s best.
The Fort Lauderdale native led the Golden Rams to a 12-2 record, the program’s most wins in a season, an appearance in the Division II quarterfinals, and claimed the SIAC title and Black College Football National Championship.
Albany State’s quarterback, Isaiah Knowles, won the SIAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. He’s now committed to FAMU.
As for Davis, he was named FAMU’s new athletic director last November, the 22nd change in the position since 1994.
The former Florida State Seminoles football player replaces Angela Suggs, who’s now FAMU’s Special Assistant to the President and Advisor for Intercollegiate Athletics, after being on paid administrative leave from June 2025 to November 2025 following being arrested on fraud and theft charges stemming from her former role as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Florida Sports Foundation.
Davis served as the Florida Lottery secretary since October 2020 and began his new job as FAMU’s athletic director on Monday, Jan. 5.
