Over the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding USC freshman quarterback Husan Longstreet. With starter Jayden Maiava returning for the 2026 season, there have been numerous rumors that Longstreet may enter the NCAA transfer portal in search of an opportunity to start next season.
Well, we finally have our answer. On Thursday evening, Longstreet announced on Instagram that he will indeed be entering the portal.
“After much reflection and prayer, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal,” Longstreet wrote. “I’m incredibly grateful to USC, Coach Riley and the coaching staff, and the entire Trojan Family. As a hometown kid, representing USC was an opportunity I’ll always cherish. The relationships I’ve built will stay with me forever.
“I’m excited for what’s ahead and ready to embrace the next opportunity with faith, purpose, and gratitude.”
Longstreet arrived at USC as a five-star recruit in the class of 2025. As a true freshman this past season, he appeared in four games, completing 13 of his 15 pass attempts for 103 yards and a touchdown. In addition he added 11 carries for 76 yards and two scores on the ground.
USC is in good hands at QB next season with Maiava. Beyond that, however losing Longstreet is a significant blow for the future of the program. It will be interesting to see how the Trojans approach the quarterback position beyond 2026 following Longstreet’s departure.
