BATON ROUGE — More help along the offensive line is on its way for LSU football.

New LSU coach Lane Kiffin and his offensive staff landed a commitment from freshman Tennessee transfer offensive lineman William Satterwhite Saturday morning. Satterwhite revealed the move via his Instagram page.

The big, 6-3, 305-pounder has been among the top targets on LSU’s portal board this week. Satterwhite is the second Tennessee player to commit to Kiffin and the Tigers this transfer portal window, the first being edge rusher Jordan Ross, who committed Friday morning.

Satterwhite played in eight games last season for the Vols.

Why William Satterwhite picked LSU football of transfer portal

It appears Satterwhite was in search of a new place where he could develop along with a path to getting on the field. And because of how much he played this past season as a young player, this is a situation where a freshman is taking advantage of the market on him and what position he plays.

Other SEC schools and other big time programs were recruiting him out of the portal, but the appeal of Kiffin’s offense appears to have won out.

How Williams Satterwhite will fit LSU football’s roster

There are options for LSU with Satterwhite, especially if current center Braelin Moore decides to stay. Satterwhtie played center for the Vols, where Moore plays, but the Tennessee transfer could possibly play at guard if need be.

But LSU coaches are enamored with Satterwhite’s ability and how strong he is as a freshman. If development is the route that LSU decides to take with Satterwhite, this could be an even bigger long-term victory for the Tigers.

LSU football transfer targets

  • Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt
  • Alabama offensive lineman Micah DeBose
  • Penn State edge rusher Chaz Coleman
  • North Carolina State wide receiver Terrell Anderson
  • California-Davis running back Carter Vargas
  • McNeese State cornerback Javon Davis

When does transfer portal close?

The NCAA transfer portal window closes Jan. 16. Players cannot enter their name in the portal following that date. But those whose name is already in the transfer portal can still decide and sign with a new school after Jan. 16.
