LSU football continued to bolster its defense through the transfer portal on Friday. Early in the day, the Tigers signed Tennessee pass rusher Jordan Ross. Later, the Tigers earned a commitment from former Southern defensive back Treylan James.

James won't have to move far, leaving Southern for LSU — both schools sit in Baton Rouge. James spent one year at Southern after begining his career at Prairie View Texas A&M.

James is a Baton Rouge native. Coming out of high school, On3 ranked James as the No. 128 safety in the class and No. 61 player in Louisiana. Despite being ranked as a safety leaving high school, James settled in at corner in college.

With Southern in 2025, James played 648 defensive snaps. He made 26 tackles and four stops and was one of the better graded run-defending corners in the FCS, according to Pro Football Focus.

James likely won't be a starter with LSU returning DJ Pickett and PJ Woodland, but the Tigers need to add depth across the team given the number of transfers leaving LSU.
