Missouri football’s quarterbacks coach is leaving for a playcalling gig.
Sean Gleeson, who has been the Tigers’ quarterbacks coach for the past two years, is heading across the western state line to become the new offensive coordinator at Kansas State. He originally joined the Tigers as an analyst in 2023. The news was reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The news of Gleeson’s departure provides clarity to another expected staff development in Columbia, as former Clemson offensive coordinator Garrett Riley is reportedly set to join Missouri. That news was reported by Pete Nakos at On3.
Riley has been an OC and quarterbacks coach for the past seasons between stops at Clemson, SMU and TCU. He was the Broyles Award winner in 2022 with the Horned Frogs, an award given to the nation’s top assistant.
Mizzou has a new offensive coordinator in Chip Lindsey, who the Tigers hired from Michigan in December.
It seems quite likely that Riley will now coach Missouri’s quarterbacks.
Gleeson helped former Missouri offensive coordinator Kirby Moore coaching the Tigers quarterbacks in 2024 and 2025, a span that saw Brady Cook, Drew Pyne, Beau Pribula and Matt Zollers all start games for the Tigers.
The downfield passing game has frequently come under criticism over the past couple of seasons.
Gleeson has a history as a playcaller, so the move to join new head coach Collin Klein’s staff in Kansas State makes sense. He has been an offensive coordinator at Princeton, Oklahoma State and Rutgers since 2017.
