Regular readers of CWFS understand I don't complain about the transfer portal, NIL or other recent changes in college sports.
To me, most of what has happened to college athletics the past few years was a much-need course correction, It made no sense that coaches could move without much trouble, but the players were stuck in place.
But … however .. except what was happening at Washington.
Quarterback Demond Williams Jr., coming off an excellent season for the rising Huskies, considered a move into the transfer portal. Despite the fact he had a lucrative deal to return to Washington next season.
Ultimately, he is staying put. And the school and coach Jedd Fisch, are putting it behind them.
Washington rolled to a bowl win against Boise State and has a chance to finish ranked in the final Associated Pres Top 25.
Williams threw for more than 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns for 9-4 Washington, which defeated Illinois at home.
The Huskies have Oregon and Indiana on their schedule in 2026, but won't play Ohio State or Michigan. The noncon schedule is set up for a 3-0 getaway.
I'm thinking Washington could be a College Football Playoff team in 2026. Williams will be happy he stayed.
