Former Tennessee cornerback transfers to 2026 SEC opponent

Former Tennessee junior defensive back Rickey Gibson III entered the NCAA transfer portal after the 2025 football season. He committed to Texas A&M after entering the transfer portal.

The 6-foot, 185-pound cornerback appeared in one game at Tennessee in 2025. He suffered a season-ending injury to his left arm against Syracuse in the Vols’ season opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Gibson III played 19 snaps against the Orange and recorded one tackle.

He appeared in 26 contests for the Vols from 2023-25, totaling 42 tackles, three tackles for a loss, six pass deflections and one forced fumble.

Gibson III went to Tennessee from Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville, Alabama. He arrived at Tennessee in Dec. 2022 and participated in Orange Bowl practices before going through 2023 spring practices.

The Aggies will host Tennessee on Nov. 14 during the 2026 regular season at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.
