Virginia Tech football: Louisiana Tech WR Marlion Jackson transfers to Hokies

Saturday was another busy day for James Franklin and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Franklin added transfer commitments from quarterback Bryce Baker (North Carolina) and wide receiver Que’Sean Brown (Duke). He wasn’t done. Franklin capped off the day by landing a commitment from Louisiana Tech wide receiver Marlion Jackson.

A native of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Jackson played at Cherokee Bluff High School before committing to Louisiana Tech. In three years with the Bulldogs, Jackson caught 46 passes for 753 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 16.4 yards per reception during his three-year career. Jackson has one year of eligibility remaining.

Jackson brings excellent size to Virginia Tech’s wide receiver corps, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 215 pounds. If you are concerned about his numbers at Louisiana Tech, look at this way: Jackson improved every year.

  • 2023: 12 receptions, 161 yards, 13.4 YPR
  • 2024: 14 receptions, 222 yards, 15.9 YPR, 1 TD
  • 2025: 20 receptions, 370 yards, 18.5 YPR, 2 TDs

Jackson isn’t being brought in with the promise of starting, but he will be in the mix to start opposite of Ayden Greene and Que’Sean Brown.

Virginia Tech’s offense is looking much better with the recent additions from the transfer portal and the retention of Marcellous Hawkins, Jeff Overton, Greene and Benji Gosnell.
