After losing Nick Marsh to Indiana, Michigan State football is starting to reload at wide receiver.

The Spartans landed a commitment from former Notre Dame receiver KK Smith on Sunday, Jan. 11, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Smith spent the last three years in South Bend after being a three-star recruit out of Frisco Reedy High School in Texas as the No. 78 overall receiver, according to 247 Sports’ composite ranking.

He played 17 total games with Notre Dame, with most of his production coming in his redshirt sophomore season last year. In 2025, he played in 10 games and had eight catches for 123 yards to go along with two touchdowns.

Ironically, he won’t be the only wide receiver transferring in from a rival to play for MSU. Former Michigan receiver Fredrick Moore also transferred to MSU on Friday, Jan. 9, to play for new coach Pat Fitzgerald.

The Spartans got a big boost at receiver when they convinced Chrishon McCray to remove his name from the transfer portal and stay in East Lansing after transferring in from Kent State before the 2025 season, while Evan Boyd, another receiver who transferred in before last year, has moved on to Iowa State.
