Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson declared for the 2026 NFL Draft earlier this month.
Simpson, who led Alabama to a College Football Playoff quarterfinals loss, announced his decision earlier in January. He will look back on his time with the Crimson Tide with serious fondness.
“Just how resilient these guys were,” Simpson said when asked following the Rose Bowl how about the 2025 season. “How much it meant to everybody. Starting off losing the first game, losing my first start, all the doubt, all the scrutiny we all took, how we all came together and how we all were going to fight for each other. Everybody gets mad that nobody expected us to be here, but that’s kind of how it was. Started off 0-1 losing to Florida State. Now made it to the Rose Bowl. Didn’t end the way we wanted it to.”
But is Simpson's college football career actually over?
According to a report from AL.com, Simpson has received an offer to transfer for more than $5 million.
It's still possible that Simpson could return to school.
Simpson receives massive $6.5 million offer
At least one program has reportedly offered Simpson a deal worth up to $6.5 million.
"At least one program has offered Simpson a deal that could total $6.5 million to play in 2026, according to one source with direct knowledge. Three SEC schools have also presented offers of at least $4 million and more for Simpson," AL.com reported.
"The hot pursuit for Simpson is, in part, a reflection of the fluid quarterback market for the 2026 season."
Simpson is considering all options.
“Several teams chasing a shrinking pool of elite quarterbacks, combined with the pressure to field a CFP contender, could drive up the price for certain players who have yet to transfer and/or are considering the NFL Draft and are seen as transformative,” attorney Darren Heitner said. “It’s basic economics where leverage meets scarcity.”
