Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Louisville Cardinals: News, Predictions, and Poll

Louisville comes to Lane Stadium for a 3:00 first weekend of November kickoff, and the beginning of the final month of football for the season. Face it, the chances of winning the last 3 of 4 to sneak in a bowl are pretty slim at this point.

The Creative Folks at Hokie Sports are Interesting.

It looks like the uniform is going to have change to the helmet stickers. No VT on the side. It’s a Chicago maroon copy of the military appreciation helmet with the nifty “Hokies” in burnt orange, instead. It seems the creative media staff got into “Spooky Season”.

The 25 Goes to Isaiah Brown-Murray

Isaiah has become a key player and even though the secondary is still inexperienced, it’s learning. There’s no telling what’s going to happen as this fiasco closes out for 2025, but one would hope that Brown-Murray sticks around.

Coach Montgomery seems to have a handle on things and is keeping a positive outlook.

Predictions

Nobody is fooling anybody for this one. Louisville is well coached by a man who is unlikely to be induced to leave since he’s a Louisville grad and has managed to find a good quarterback, Miller Moss, to match his play calling. And the pass game is Tech’s greatest weakness on both sides of the ball. Don’t think that they can’t run though because their lead back, Isaac Brown, is on track to crack 1,000 yards this season. The Cardinals have a solid personnel package and seem to be firing on all cylinders. They are already bowl eligible 6-1, and will probably be competing down to the wire, for the ACC “Championship”. It’s just a way better team that has continued to develop and improve over the season.

Not so with the Hokies. Though Tech has managed to salvage some games, and is 2-2 in the ACC which puts them in the middle of the pack, they are unlikely to make a bowl game this season. It’s a pride salvage for the Hokies, and the double-digit 10.5 point spread in favor of the Cardinals should be embarrassing enough to get them to play harder. The reality is, though, that beating the spread might be the best that they can do.

Bryan Manning

Bryan’s feeling under the weather. If he’s feeling a bit better later he’ll update the article with his prediction.

John Schneider

I was happily wrong last week. This week, I’d love to be proven that way again. Unfortunately, I really don’t think so. Louisville’s offense is just too much for the Hokie secondary to control. The Cardinals’ quarterback, Miller Moss can and does sling it around. He can also run from a broken play and hit the other weakness that has plagued the Hokies for eons.

I just don’t see this one coming down for the Hokies. Maybe the best bet is that the team can beat that ridiculous 10.5 point spread, but there’s a better chance that Louisville blows the doors off of it. Please, let me be wrong on this one, too.

Time for the Poll

It’s the penultimate game at Lane for 2025. The weather is expected to be very fall like with the Eastern Standard time sun setting quickly after the 3:00 kickoff, and the temperature dropping off fast with the disappearance of the sun. Will there be enough fans in the stands by the end of the game to help the situation. It’s going to depend on what’s happening on the field. If the wiseguys are right and it’s a double-digit loss, the stands will empty out and the fans will head out to drown their sorrows. Let’s see, something exciting could happen.

GO HOKIES!!!
