BATON ROUGE – LSU football is now up to eight wide receivers added out of the transfer portal.
Troy sophomore wide receiver Roman Mothershed has signed with the Tigers, the program announced Monday. Lane Kiffin and his offensive staff have gone all out trying to rebuild LSU’s wide receiver room through the transfer portal and it’s come to fruition to the tune of eight new playmakers.
Mothershed played in nine games during his freshman season at Troy in 2025, amassing 25 receptions for 259 yards and a touchdown.
He’s another big-bodied receiver at 6-4, 208 pounds.
Why Roman Mothershed picked LSU football out of transfer portal
For Mothershed, the opportunity to play in the SEC was hard to pass up, even if it means taking a year to development. He starred for the Trojans as a freshman but there’s more talent in Baton Rouge at receiver right now.
How Roman Mothershed will fit LSU football’s roster
The expectation for Mothershed is likely to grow and improve during his first season with the Tigers. He has the size that Kiffin and his offensive coached look for and want.
Mothershed is an ideal depth piece for where LSU’s receiver room is right now in a complete rebuilt and restock mode. He has a basketball background so as he develops, watch out for him in the red zone and end zone.
LSU football transfer targets
- USC quarterback Husan Longstreet
- Alabama offensive lineman Micah DeBose
- North Carolina State wide receiver Terrell Anderson
- California-Davis running back Carter Vargas
- McNeese State cornerback Javon Davis
When does transfer portal close?
The NCAA transfer portal window closes Jan. 16. Players cannot enter their name in the portal following that date, but those whose name is already in the transfer portal can still decide and sign with a new school after Jan. 16.
