Georgia football’s depth at running back got a boost on Monday, Jan. 12, when the Bulldogs picked up a transfer from another SEC program.
Kentucky’s Dante Dowdell, who finished second on the Wildcats in rushing last season, signed with the Bulldogs, he posted on his Instagram account.
Dowdell rushed for 560 yards and 3 touchdowns last season as a junior, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. That included 104 yards on 7 carries with a 65-yard touchdown against Florida.
The 6-foot-2, 227-pound Dowdell will be playing for his fourth team in four seasons.
He rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown in 2023 for Oregon and Dan Lanning and led Nebraska with 614 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 2024.
Dowdell was a four-star recruit out of Picayune, Miss., in 2023.
Georgia is losing Josh McCray (135 rushing yards, 3 TDs) who was utilized on short yardage after transferring from Illinois last offseason. Third-down running back Cash Jones (20 catches for 195 yards and a TD) also finished his Bulldog career. Reserve running back Roderick Robinson entered the transfer portal.
Georgia’s top two rushers last season were Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens. Bowens posted on Instagram Monday that he’s returning in 2026.
