Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith lists Mount Rushmore of OSU players

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith went the throwback route when selecting a Mount Rushmore of all-time Buckeyes football greats.

In an Instagram collaboration with Ohio State and “I Am Athlete” on Jan. 10. Smith was asked to pick four OSU players to highlight the program. He selected three Heisman Trophy winners and one NFL Hall of Famer.

Smith notably failed to include any Ohio State receivers or any players from after the 2006 season.

Who is on wide receiver Jeremiah Smith’s Ohio State Mount Rushmore?

Below is Smith’s Mount Rushmore.

Archie Griffin, running back

Archie Griffin

Two-time honoree Archie Griffin is the only player to win multiple Heisman Trophies, and he did so by significant margins. In both votes he won by over 1,000 points. He was the Big Ten’s leading rusher each season from his sophomore to senior year.

Eddie George, running back

Eddie George

Eddie George served as the Buckeyes lead running back for two seasons, but his 1995 senior season was on a different level. He racked up 1,826 rushing yards (6 yards per carry) with 24 total touchdowns, both figures led Division IA (now the Football Bowl Subdivision).

Troy Smith, quarterback

Troy Smith

Smith won the Heisman Trophy in his final season with the Buckeyes. He led the FBS in completion percentage (65.3%), passing touchdowns (30) and passer rating (161.9) during the undefeated 2006 regular season.

Orlando Pace, offensive tackle

Orlando Pace

Arguably the most dominant offensive tackle to ever play college football, Pace did not allow a sack in either of his first two seasons. He finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting in his junior season, the best result for an offensive lineman since fellow Buckeye John Hicks in 1973. Pace went on to be the No. 1 pick in the 1997 NFL Draft, finished with seven Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl win in 2000 with the Rams.

Honorable mention | Braxton Miller, quarterback

When asked to pick “new head” for his list, Smith added quarterback Braxton Miller as a more recent Ohio State player he would consider worthy of consideration.

Braxton Miller

An Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee in 2024, Miller was a two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and finished in the top 10 of Heisman Trophy voting his sophomore and junior seasons. A torn labrum injury prevented him from playing the 2014 college football season, in which coach Urban Meyer and quarterbacks J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones led the Buckeyes to a national championship. In 2015, Miller moved to wide receiver and pulled off one of the more memorable spin moves in college football history.
