Another Australian punter will be on the roster for the Nittany Lion‘s roster next season.
Former Mississippi State punter Nathan Tiyce has announced he will transferring to Penn State this morning. He will have three years of eligibility remaining. He will also follow in the footsteps of fellow Aussie Riley Thompson, who is graduating this year.
Tiyce took somewhat of an unusual route to college football. Hailing from Gerrigong, Australia, he spent two years at a college in New South Wales, spent five years working on a farm, and initially played Australian rugby. He had only heard of American football after going through his Instagram and finding out about a player who went through a program in Australia and was drafted to the NFL at 30 years old.
He joined the program in 2023 and and earned a scholarship to Mississippi State on Christmas Eve 2024. He had to split time with Ethan Pulliam as a freshman, but still managed to average 39 yards on just 12 punts. His season long was 54 yards and he had seven downed inside the 20 yard line. For a kid who only started kicking a football three years ago, that’s highly impressive.
He will now join true freshman Lucas Tenbrock as the only two punters on the 2026 roster. Penn State had signed another Australian punter from the 2026 class in Adam McCann-Gibbs, but he flipped his commitment to UNC in November of last year.
