Ansu Sanoe displays physicality in college football debut

Washington Huskies running back Ansu Sanoe found the end zone in his college football debut as part of a modest 5-carry, 5-yard performance in a 16-14 win over Utah State.

The former three-star recruit, who was the first player to commit to Fisch's 2026 class, was thrust into action following injuries to the top two players on the depth chart, Quaid Carr and Jayden Limar—who were both spotted in slings on Saturday—as the Huskies have struggled to run the ball early in the year.

With the depth at the position already looking dire, Jedd Fisch was encouraged by what he saw from the 6-foot, 240-pound ball carrier, who brings promising physicality near the goal line.

"He's a big physical back that can make plays," the head coach said on Saturday. "Now, you've gotta also be able to read the offensive line looks on the run game that we have. If you're a zone running team, you have to be able to stretch and cut, and do all the other parts of it, rather than just kind of hammer it in there. But I do believe that Ansu gives us an opportunity there. He runs hard; he ran physical down there."

Now, as the Huskies look to get Sanoe and fellow freshman Brian Bonner more comfortable in the offense, it's about more production.

"He had a nice 5-yard run as well. But, you know, we can't be talking about 35, 40-yard running games by our backs and be really pleased with where we are as a running team right now. So, we'll figure it out, and if we, uh, have to adjust, we'll adjust, but we'll keep on working through it.
