Clemson added another defensive piece from the transfer portal, picking up a commitment from FCS edge rusher CJ Wesley out of Howard.
Wesley, a rising redshirt senior, committed to the Tigers following a recent visit to campus and an offer that came over the weekend. Listed at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, he becomes Clemson’s second portal defensive end addition this cycle, joining London Merritt as a newcomer to the edge group.
During his most recent active season, Wesley recorded 33 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Over 26 career games at Howard, he totaled 47 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Wesley spent four years with the program from 2022–25 and redshirted during the 2024 season.
Wesley is now the ninth public transfer portal commitment for Clemson, all of which have come on the defensive side of the ball. Along with Merritt, he joins Kourtney Kelly and Markus Strong as portal additions on the defensive line.

“Let’s work!” Wesley posted on social media when announcing his decision.
Before choosing Clemson, Wesley took an official visit to Texas Tech and also held reported offers from Wake Forest and Charlotte. Former Clemson wide receiver Artavis Scott is currently on staff at Howard as the team’s wide receivers coach.
