Former Georgia football edge rusher announces transfer to Miami

Former Georgia Bulldogs edge rusher Damon Wilson II has announced his transfer destination. The senior edge rusher will be transferring to the Miami Hurricanes, according to Pete Nakos of On3. He will look to block out the noise of his ongoing lawsuit with Georgia football.

Wilson II visited Miami on Jan. 20, 2026, the day after the Hurricanes lost the 2025 national championship. The Hurricanes have an extended transfer portal deadline due to making the championship, so they will be more active than most programs at this point.

Wilson II is widely considered as a potential 2027 NFL draft first-round pick. He was the No. 8 player in the portal since it opened on Jan. 2 and he is ranked as the No. 3 edge rusher. As an added bonus for transferring, Wilson will be closer to his hometown of Venice, Florida.

Wilson II’s lawsuit with the Georgia Bulldogs is because he signed a deal with Classic City Collective during his sophomore season in Dec. 2024. The contract would’ve to paid him a total of $500,000 split in increments of $30,000 a month and a bonus $40,000 after each transfer portal window closed, which would’ve rewarded Wilson II for not transferring.

Of course, Wilson II ended up entering the transfer portal after Georgia’s loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl. He transferred to the Missouri Tigers, where he would break out, racking up the third-most sacks in the SEC (nine) and earning a spot on the 2025 All-SEC second team.

Georgia sued Wilson II for $390,000, and Wilson II countersued. “After all the facts come out, people will be shocked at how the University of Georgia treated a student athlete,” Wilson II’s attorney, Bogdan Susan said in a statement. “It has never been about the money for Damon, he just wants to play the game he loves and pursue his dream of playing in the NFL.”

Wilson II may be headed to the perfect place to become an NFL talent. The Miami Hurricanes made it to the national championship largely due to their front seven (despite having Georgia Bulldogs quarterback transfer Carson Beck). Guys like Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor are projected to be high draft picks in this upcoming draft, and with Corey Heatherman coaching Wilson II through his development, he could be in line for a high pick in the 2027 NFL draft.
