.5M SEC QB Gets Bold Dak Prescott Comparison From Paul Finebaum

Kamario Taylor entered Saturday as one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in college football. Then Alabama arrived in Starkville and handed Mississippi State Bulldogs a 56-23 loss, leaving the sophomore with a rough day and plenty of questions. Hours before that kickoff, though, a famous voice from the SEC Network made a bold claim about Taylor that has not stopped spreading. It involves one of the biggest names in program history.

Paul Finebaum compares Kamario Taylor to Dak Prescott

Paul Finebaum made the comparison on SEC Nation from The Junction on Saturday morning, hours before No. 7 Alabama visited No. 16 Mississippi State. He recalled the Dak Prescott era, when those Bulldogs were also undefeated.

“They have a quarterback now that may be better than Dak Prescott, Kamario Taylor,” Finebaum told viewers. “A win here, and I’m about to say something I didn’t think I’d ever say.”

The numbers gave the claim some weight. Through four games, Taylor had thrown for 1,192 yards and 14 touchdowns against two interceptions, tying for the FBS lead in touchdown passes. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound dual threat had also guided Mississippi State to a 4-0 start.

Prescott’s 2014 season still sets the standard in Starkville. He passed for 3,449 yards and 27 touchdowns, added 986 rushing yards and 14 more scores, and led the Bulldogs to a 9-0 start with five straight weeks at No. 1.

Taylor needed a big day against Alabama to keep pace, but it did not follow the script. He finished 19-of-34 for 258 yards and three touchdowns, yet he threw two interceptions and fumbled early.

The Crimson Tide sacked him five times, and he left in the fourth quarter while playing through a leg injury from the previous week.

The bigger debate around Taylor, however, involved where he might play next.

Kamario Taylor shuts down Nick Saban transfer talk

A week earlier, Nick Saban said on ESPN’s College GameDay that he would try to get Taylor into the transfer portal if he were coaching today. Finebaum later blamed Saban on a podcast for fueling the speculation.

The sophomore addressed the noise right away. “If you know me, you know I bleed maroon and white,” Taylor said.

Taylor grew up in Macon, Mississippi, and his uncle, Omarr Conner, played for the Bulldogs from 2003 to 2006. He also attended every home game during his senior year of high school, even as the Bulldogs went 2-10.

Head coach Jeff Lebby has echoed that message, telling ESPN he is not worried about Taylor leaving. Money remains part of the story, too. On3 lists Taylor’s NIL valuation at $1.5 million, though one source questioned that figure when speaking with ESPN.

Mississippi State sits at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC. Taylor is day to day, with a bye week before the Bulldogs visit Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers, also 4-1, on Oct. 17 in Baton Rouge.
