As National Signing Day for the Class of 2026 came and went, a group of York and Adams County players came together to realize their college football dreams.

10 seniors from various programs across the YAIAA convened at the Accountability for Life building on Vogelsong Road last Wednesday with their friends, family, coaches and fellow athletes to sign their letters of intent and discuss their experience on the recruiting trail with younger players.

"All the hard work we put in five, six days a week, all the hard practices, all the hard games, it's really rewarding for all of us," York High lineman Trevor Lee, who committed to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, said. "They're all my friends, all the seniors they're my guys. And for those of us at different schools, seeing them go to college as well is really nice. It's our hard work paying off."

Each of the players showed both pride and confidence in their choices of college programs. Northeastern center Oji Numa, who committed to Albany, received 14 offers from Division I and Division II programs over the past year.

The senior said he was elated that college coaches saw his potential and were willing to put their stock in him as a player, especially through meeting many of them through his connections with the program.

Numa had originally committed to East Stroudsburg, but when Albany took an interest in him, the senior center decided to flip his commitment to a Division I FCS program that saw his potential.

"It's definitely been a long process, not an easy one," Numa said. "I got to know a lot of coaches through this program, so that definitely helped in my recruiting process, made things a bit easier."

Each of the players all worked through AFL's College Athletic Planning, or CAP, program to connect with college coaches and teams, and many credited their success in the hunt to the program. Colten Koons, a lineman at Red Lion, has part of AFL for a year and committed to Misericordia for his college career. Once he visited the Cougars' facilities, he fell in immediate love.

Koons attributes part of the reason he was able to connect with Misericordia was thanks to the connections he made through AFL. He also sees the value in working with and against fellow seniors in his class.

"I see it, truthfully, as a brotherhood," Koons said. "When we're here, we're all working to get better. We're all working for the same goal, and that's to eventually make it into college and be the best player that you can be."

AFL Director of Athletics Ben Cregger said that AFL's CAP Program has worked to expand in recent years. When the program began, only a handful of players in the program played for teams other than York High. According to Cregger, the number of league players has swelled through word of mouth and gradual expansion of operations.

In 2024, AFL's CAP program participants acquired a combined 69 offers. By 2025, the total number of offers reached 97. For the 2026 class, 110 combined college offers was spread out among 19 athletes.

"When we started the program we had eight to 12 non-York High players in the program," Cregger said. "We've grown it into about 30-40 kids, so it is growing just from our pushing it out on social media, word of mouth … It's opened the door for more kids from different schools in the area to come along."

Each of the newest college signees can vouch for the program's effectiveness. During the ceremony, each of the players was asked to give their experience and what lessons they learned on the trail to younger players present. Nearly all of them gave the same answer — put in the work and results will follow.

"Trust in process and trust in God," Lee said. "Those are the big things that I feel you should need, because that's what's going to get you there."
