Texas baseball team lost its first game of the season Friday, falling to Ole Miss, 9-8 in 11 innings at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Friday night to open the SEC conference season. But winning the series 2-3 was enough to keep UT at No. 2 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Longhorns were a perfect 16-0 heading into the weekend and emerge 18-1. There are 11 SEC teams in the Top 25, meaning the voters will be lenient to a point with the occasional conference loss. The Rebels are No. 24 in the nation.

UCLA continues to hold onto the top spot in the ranking. The Bruins are 17-2 and are powered by the hot bat of former Longhorns outfielder Will Gasparino. Georgia Tech, Auburn and Georgia round out the top five.

Texas hosts Tarleton State on Tuesday in Austin before heading to Auburn to play a three game weekend series with the Tigers.
