2025 Wasabi Fenway Bowl Prediction: Army vs UConn
NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...
It hasn’t been the smoothest of takeoffs for the Wasabi Fenway Bowl.
One of them got cancelled, the other four were, shall we say, scoring-challenged.
None of the four were decided by one score, and last year’s UConn 27-14 win over North Carolina was a high-powered shootout compared to the other three. This year …
You know that bad restaurant line about how the food was bad, but the portions are huge? That might be this.
It probably won’t be the best of games, but it should be over really, really quickly.
Army is going for the sixth bowl win in seven tries under head coach Jeff Monken, and UConn is coming off a phenomenal season, with a chance to close out the first ten-win season since moving to the FBS ranks in 2000.

Why UConn Will Win
Let’s just say UConn is missing a few guys.
Gordon Sammis will take over for Jim Mora, who left for Colorado State, and with Toledo’s Jason Candle waiting in the wings. There should be some familiarity under Sammis for a team that was able to keep Air Force in check in the second-to-last game of the season.
Army doesn’t have the type of team that will run away and hide with this. It controls the clock, will be happy to keep the score low, and that fits exactly into what the Huskies need.
The Huskies will try to keep the passing game going and pull the Knights out of their shell. Most importantly, though, is the number two.
That’s how many turnovers UConn has on the year, and it’s one of the few teams that can play Army and not be crushed in the penalty battle. However …
Why Army Will Win
Again, let’s just say UConn is missing a few guys.
It’s more like a lot of guys, as in, just about everyone who matters might be gone – starting with Jim Mora.
Several Huskies entered the transfer portal almost instantly, Biletnikoff-caliber receiver Skyler Bell is almost certainly off getting ready for the next level, and if you’re a UConn student who can throw a forward pass, you’re needed at quarterback.
Meanwhile, Army not only has everyone back – it’s Army – but it’s still a tad tuned up with the Navy game just a few weeks earlier. And even better, there’s just enough time off to get everyone right.
Even when UConn was fully loaded, it couldn’t stop the run. It got hit for 186 rushing yards per game, and lost in two of the three times when it allowed more than 205 yards.
Only Air Force and Navy held Army to under 200, mostly because military vs military games are over in about an hour.
Army vs UConn Prediction, Betting Lines
You never, ever know.
Army found a super-funky way to gag away the opener against Tarleton State. The offense couldn’t score against East Carolina, it couldn’t get going against Navy, and …
This might have been one of the most interesting midrange bowl games had UConn been all back full, but it’s missing too many parts against, literally, the most disciplined team in college football.
Again, you never know. Sometimes in these bowl things, the guys deep in the back of the roster play out of their minds when they get their shot. UConn has nothing to lose, the guys who are there will go full gas, and it won’t be enough.
Army will run the offense, hold the ball for 40+ minutes, and roll to yet another bowl win under Monken.
