It’s been a chaotic news cycle since Texas A&M’s 10-3 loss to Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff, as head coach Mike Elko has made several changes to his 2026 coaching staff after Collin Klein and Jay Bateman left for new opportunities after Saturday’s loss. However, the news that defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson will follow Klein to Kansas State could affect future recruiting.

Peterson, who helped recruit and ultimately land 2026 five-star cornerback and Texas A&M signee Brandon Arrington, can’t be easily replaced, especially given his connection as a former Aggie football player. Still, the news that Elijah Robinson will head back to College Station, set to replace Sean Spencer, who is headed to Virginia Tech, as the co-defensive line coach, is also bringing his elite recruiting background that Aggie fans are familiar with.

Arrington, who signed his letter of intent earlier this month, remains locked in with the Aggies despite Peterson’s departure, knowing that head coach Mike Elko and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill have a plan in place for the elite athlete, who is more than talented enough to see the field as soon as his freshman season.

Posting on X with a clear message of his dedication to Texas A&M, Arrington’s steadfast loyalty further proves that Elko has the program in the right direction. Making the CFP in Year 2 can’t be described any other way than successful for Mike Elko, who will continue to hire the right coaches to help the Aggies improve at every level.
