Week 1 was fairly good for us. The worst record for the 16-game salvo was 7-10, which both Tom and Import hit. The minor slip-up allowed CDA’s 13-4 single-week record to vault him into first ahead of Tom, Import, and Andrew, who also had a moderately impressive set at 9-8. Cole matched Andrew’s weekly score but is still one behind on the season as am I, though I was “only” 8-9 for Week 1.
The only real stumbling blocks were taking Vanderbilt -29.5 while hosting Austin Peay, Clemson to not get completely eviscerated by LSU, and Louisville staying within 6.5 points of Ole Miss. Colorado beating Georgia Tech was also not good for us. If only 3 games go sideways, that is how you get so many collectively good scores.
The schedule stays heavy with more FCS games getting lines than in the past. There is also 1 SEC-SEC game with the Crimson Tide flooding Lexington. There are quite a few “big name” games with Missouri-Kansas, Oklahoma-Michigan, Arizona State-Texas A&M, Mississippi State-Minnesota, Tennessee-Georgia Tech, Ohio State-Texas, and Arkansas-Utah. There are 2 unanimous matchups this week. Another 8 games were picked with just one person breaking from the crowd. 5 more games do have a staff favorite pick. That leaves the final game split evenly.
The Rules
- Normally, the picks are for all SEC games with one dealer’s choice where I get to choose another game to make us pick.
- The picks will be made AGAINST THE SPREAD. Too many games are easy to pick heads up. Also, this will serve as a PSA for why you should not get into sports gambling, which is especially important with sports gambling being legal in Tennessee now.
- The lines will be taken from FanDuel, who SB Nation has partnered with this season, some time Monday, so they may not match what is listed at the time this article is published. I may also use a backup for FBS-FCS matchups if the line is available elsewhere when I get the spreads.
